Hops is where your team works with AI agents. This guide walks you through the basics so you can see it in action fast.

1. Sign up

1

Create your account

Head to app.hops.ai and sign up. If someone on your team already has a workspace, they can send you an invite link instead.
2

Land in your workspace

Once you’re in, you’ll see your workspace with My Space (your private space) and a Personal Assistant ready to go.
You’re in. Now let’s make it useful.

2. Talk to Hops

Every workspace comes with a default agent called Hops. You’ll find it in the left sidebar under Agents. Click on it to open a conversation.

Type a message in the chat. No @ tag needed here since you’re already talking directly to Hops.
This is the fastest way to see Hops in action. You’re chatting directly with the agent. Think of it as a smart teammate who’s ready to help.

3. Talk to your Personal Assistant

Alongside Hops, every account comes with a Personal Assistant — your own private agent, scoped just to you.

Hops (default agent)

Shared across your workspace. Great for team-wide questions, drafts, and any work that happens inside a Space.

Personal Assistant

Private to you. Use it for personal drafts, reminders, and questions you don’t want to share with the workspace.

4. Create your first Space

A Space is where work happens. Think of it as a room for a project, a team, or a client. Everything inside a Space (conversations, docs, artifacts) becomes context your agents can use.
The Create a Space modal with fields for icon, name, topic, and visibility.
1

Click the + button

At the bottom of the left sidebar, click the + button and select Space.
2

Name your Space

Give it a clear name like Marketing, Q3 Launch, or Acme Account.
For more details on setup, visibility, and best practices, see Create a Space.
Keep each Space focused on one thing. The more specific the context, the better your agents perform.

5. Create a new agent

Beyond Hops and your Personal Assistant, you can build custom agents — each with their own instructions, tools, and personality — for specific jobs like a support triager, a research assistant, or a sales SDR.

1

Open Agents

In the left sidebar, go to Agents and click New agent.
2

Give it a role

Add a name, description, and clear instructions for what the agent should do.
3

Connect tools

Pick the apps and data the agent can use — Gmail, Notion, HubSpot, and more.
For more details, see Custom agents.

6. Use agents in your Space

Once you’re in a Space, you can chat with agents right away. You can also invite custom agents into any Space — open the Space’s Agents panel and add the ones you want available in that room. Tag any agent with @ in the chat: @Hops for the default, or @[name] for any custom agent you’ve invited. A Space can have multiple agents, and you can tag different ones in the same conversation.

Each agent responds from its own instructions and connected apps. The more you use a Space, the smarter your agents get.

7. Invite your team

Bring your teammates into the workspace so they can join your Spaces and work with agents too.
The Invite team members modal in Team Management, with email, role, and cap options.
1

Open Team Management

Click the Settings icon in the bottom of the left sidebar, then go to Team Management.
2

Add seats and invite

Add seats for your team members and invite them to join your workspace.
Once your teammates are in, they can join Spaces, chat with agents, and start getting value right away.

8. Connect your tools

Your agents work best when they can pull from the tools your team already uses. Hops connects to 2,000+ apps. Tools in Hops can be scoped in two places, depending on which agent should be able to use them:

Workspace connections

Manage from Settings → Connections. These are available to Hops and your Personal Assistant, so anything you connect here your default and personal agents can use right away.

Custom agent tools

Configured per custom agent from that agent’s settings. Each custom agent gets its own scoped set of tools — great for keeping a sales agent’s tools separate from a support agent’s.

1

Open Connections (for Hops + Personal Assistant)

Go to Settings → Connections at app.hops.ai/settings/connections and click Connect app.
2

Or open a custom agent (for that agent only)

Go to Agents, open the agent you want, and add tools from its Tools tab. Only that agent will use them.
3

Pick a tool

Browse or search the list. Some popular ones:
  • Gmail for email threads and drafts
  • Google Drive & Docs for files, folders, and documents
  • HubSpot for contacts, deals, and pipeline
  • Jira for issues, sprints, and boards
  • Linear for issues, projects, and cycles
  • Notion for pages, databases, and wikis
  • Slack for channels and conversations (search for it in the list)
4

Authorize and go

Click Connect next to any app, sign in, and grant Hops the permissions it needs. Your agent(s) can start using the tool right away.
Start with one or two tools. You can add more any time. Each tool you connect makes your agents more useful.
